In Aug 1996, Peter Christian began to work with SCB. Success was immediate with Peter collecting 2 NIBA championships, NIBBL titles and 2 trips to represent Northern Ireland at the European Brass Band Contest. Peter Christian's commitment to the band was all the more important when on 12 April 1997, Harry Gault died suddenly. Under the baton of Peter Christian the band travelled to Warrington in 1999 in aid of Children for Peace and the Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball Trust. Several successful trips to contests in Scotland followed, however the invitation to play at Queen Elizabeth's golden jubilee allowed the members of the band to play along side the Black Dyke Mills, Buy As You View, and Whitburn.

This was indeed a golden era of success in contesting and entertainment for SCB best demonstrated in the recording of 'Let the Music Begin'.
In recent years the appointment of James MacCafferty as conductor coincided with the band welcoming both Sam Maguire and David King to Strabane, the Irish premier of Paul Lovatt-Cooper's 'Earth's Fury' in Dublin's Christchurch by SCB and a fine christmas CD recording. During his time as principle conductor James also presided over the the band qualifying to participate in Northern Ireland's hosting of the European Championships before handing over the reins to Johnathan Corry.
